ANOTHER WEEKEND BONUS:
About 10 lines ago (including spaces), I said, "I will argue that life is all about soul, passion, & dedication."
In the comments below, state your 3 entities about which life is "all about."
Also, explain.
Let's say, 100 words (or, 33 & 1/3 apiece).
EXAMPLE:
soul: the spark of life within. The force that drives us to do "good" or just to do. That for which we live, on the internal plane, as well as that which we look for in others, in the hope of a kind of connection on the emotional & intellectual levels. That which makes "me," "me" & "you," "you."
1st 10 will earn 10 bonus points . . . after that, some kind of bonus & my respect.

Firstly, the search. For happiness, for knowledge, for purpose; or for friends, for money, for acclaim.
ReplyDeleteThen, the experience. Your first love, your first house, having a child. Learning to drive, graduating from high school, being promoted at work.
Lastly, Making yourself. Or discovering yourself, whichever you prefer. So you can leave an indent on the world or society that people will know is you, and you alone. You are made from your experiences. You are made from your discoveries, what you gain from your searches, your successes, your failure. In part, you do not get to choose who you are. But mostly, you do. Once we are content with who we are, we are content with life.

I think life is all about the following three: Appetence,Perseverance, and lastly Repose.
ReplyDeleteAppetence: Natural craving to achieve, accomplish, or obtain. The passion that makes life worth living. The natural desire to do or set out to do what makes you your own person. The hunger for life itself. The driving force and motivation behind everyone.
Perseverance: The ability to be persistent in achieving, accomplishing, or obtaining. The ability to overcome conflict, interference, and obstacles that threatened to foil your desires becoming reality. The ability to not give up, and to remain hopeful when your goals seem unobtainable. The fire to keep going.
Repose: The rest that comes after achieving, accomplishing, or obtaining, The tranquility one feels after enjoying the experiences that life has brought them. The peace one has obtained through experiencing the chaos of life. The enjoyment of being aimless at times to enjoy internal contentment. The lack of worry, and the abundance of bliss.

Depending on what we have encountered in life it helps us grow as an individual. Different life occurrences have drove us to become who we are. And through these experiences we have found what works for us and what doesn't. For me personally to live a fulfilling life I must forever live with Faith, Peace, and Hope. Although this may sound cliché, without these vital elements I would not be able to survive.
ReplyDeleteFor me I see faith as an expectance that all can choose to do well. We have a personal choice to decide what we want to learn, what experiences we want to try, and who to respect. Without this choice we would not be able to as humans to accomplish what we fill fit to achieve.
Now peace, I see this as a way to be tolerant of others. The human race is known for creating unneeded gossip and through this, unneeded stress occurs. If people would sometimes just be able to turn their heads even if they didn’t respect the situation so much chaos would not take place.
And as far as hope goes I see this as a chance for each person to find their own individual fulfillment. People tend to get caught up in the negativities of what may happen. Yet if they could just learn to take a deep breath and know that somehow the situation will work itself out, so much anxiety would not come about.

The 3 points in which life is all about:
ReplyDelete1) Inspiration: Everyone has to have the something in their life that motivates them, to allow them to keep on going in life. The inspiration can vary; it can be anything. As long as it keeps the spirit within alive whether it is music, animals, books, photos, ANYTHING. Inspiration is the key to doing whatever you want to do in life.
2) Determination: The only way anyone can succeed in life is having the drive to get where you are going. There is no way to have a car, a house, a partner, a child, a marriage, basically anything, without the determination to get there.
3) Dedication: Once you have been able to accomplish your goals to keep what you have, everyone needs to have dedication. If everyone gave up after they accomplished their goals, everyone would be back to square one. The finest way to keep the best thing in anyone’s life is to commit to keep going.
These three is what life is all about, if one doesn’t have inspiration you cant determination, if one doesn’t have determination you cant have dedication; without these entities life would be purposeless for everyone.

In life i think the most important things are to set goals/ have dreams, have modivation to reach it, and in the end, Love it!
ReplyDeleteDreams: Since childhood, everyone has had dreams, whether it be becoming a princess or cowboy, it always seemed to make us happy. As you get older those dreams become more realistic, however just like dreaming of one day being a cowboy, your dreams as an adult make you very happy.
Modivation: However, it isnt just about having those dreams. those dreams will only become thoughts lingering in your head if you dont pursue them, and try to make them into reality. Even if you dont reach the moon you'll fall somewhere in the stars!
Love: Once you reach your goal, you must have Love for what you do! All thehard work you put into reaching the goal, needs to be all worth it in the end. That love is very important, and will keep you happy, and soon it will seem as if you are in a dream.

In life I think the most important things are to believe, perseverence, and happiness.
ReplyDeleteTo Believe:This is an important key to life, becuase no matter who you are everyone has dreams. You have to believe its going to come true in order to come true, Becuase if you forever have the mind set that its never goign to come true it won't. Some things in life happen based off your beliefs and moods. Well actually most of them are. This is where persevernce comes in.
Perseverence: This it to keep trying to reach goals or your dreams in life. With out this you will get no where in life sadly to say. Becuase to achieve your goals in life comes hardwork and harkwork mean perseverence. Its the motivation to keep going to get where you want to ve in the end. Perseverence is key to life as for happiness is.
Happiness: Believing, perseverence, and happiness all connect together. They connect together , becuase as I stated in the paragaph to believe things sometimes happen based off your moods. So if you happy you can achieve thing in life to get far. Happiness is also key becuase who wants to be sad all your life there would be no point. So to believe, perseverence, and happiness are the most important things in life.

ReplyDeleteLife: the true definition of life is of course different for every person. But I think one thing that we all have in common is hope. Life is pretty much an investment in something we hope for. It can be hoping to become rich, hoping to get asked to Homecoming, hoping to eat a meal that night. We may not see exactly what it is that we hope for, but in every day that we live we invest our time for something greater. That "something" is subjective. It could change every day or it could be the same hope forever. We feed off of hope because otherwise we would all be completely satisfied, and no human is ever COMPLETELY satisfied. What we have is never enough, and when we think it is, we long for something else. In striving for our goals, we come across experiences, success, downfalls, and people that we love. That fills up the rest of my definition of life. Around our one hope in life, or even thousands of hopes, we are surrounded by everything else that helps us to hope some more.
ReplyDeleteSandra Kang, per 5.
Life is about expression, happiness, and love, in that order. Without the capability to express ourselves we will never be happy, and love without happiness isn't love at all.
ReplyDeleteExpression: The ability to transform our inner felings into something comprehensive, rather than a mass of chemicals rushing through our bloodstreams. Basically, there is no use in having feeling if we cannot translate them into productivity. Expression can take sevral forms, music, writing, art, anything you have to put yourself into.
Happiness: The ability to look past trival issues and appreciate life for what it is. Happiness cannot come from a new ipod, or a television, or almost anything inamimine. In fact, I find it difficult to say that anything or anyone can make you happy besides yourself, because happiness is a mental state, not nessasarily an emotion. Happiness is an absoulute and genuine appreciation for yourself, and life.
Love: No, not as in the boy/girl who will put up with you smaking your chapped unappealing lips on them. I mean real love; between people, for animals, for whatever you do in life. My love is music, someone else's is math, someone else's is sweeping floors. You can tell when you love someone or something when NO MATTER WHAT someone says about it/them, you remain in love (you have to have the upmost confidence in yourself to do this, which is why you need the other two things first). What you love is something you don't need, you can't be dependent on it, and you can't rely on it to tell you you're pretty or handsome all the time just because you're insecure (all high school relationships, basically). Love is real, and although it's true you'll "know it when it happens" (too cliche, I know) you may also feel you love something when you really dont. For instance, I love cheesecake, but I don't love it for its personality, I love it because it satisfies a need I have. On the other hand, I love my Grandma, yes, she satisfies some of my needs, but she's also an amazing person, and I admire her. That's what love is, and most people won't understand it until it's too late and they're married to their blonde bimbo secretary or rich old man husband. And that's a fact.
Life is about... This is a difficult statement. Life is more than three things, it contains many memories, adventures, and experiences. What makes this difficult is not necessarly what life is, it's the question, what am I living for? And Why do I live the way I do?
ReplyDeleteOkay... Life is about sharing. We've all been taught as young children to share our toys and posessions with other people. Maybe for some this was to help ensure our guardians that we were being brought up against society or to show we were learning about kindness and patience. Sharing shows humbleness, and respect for that other person. Many people confuse sharing with tangeable objects like money to the homeless. My personal favorite example is a smile. Who doesn't like a joyful person on your cloudy day to cheer you up and give you a hug saying "everything will be okay"? For those who are theological like myself, sharing your religion is a way to tell others about what comforts you and satifies you on a daily basis.
Life is also about being curious and not knowing all there is to know. Being curious is a way to find out more about your life and the way you/human nature lives it. Life is asking questions and continueisly observing about the world around you and what's beyond this Earth.
And finally, Life is love and passions. Love for family, friends, nature, animals, and many other things. What would the world be without love or passions to keep love going? Is being passionate and loveing the same thing? To me love is thousands of times stronger. Love is the ultimate strenth, like a flameing fire within your heart that never seases to burn. A lot of my love goes to my God, family, friends, my cats along with our newly aquired kitten :),and outside activities. They continue to inspire me to strive to become a better person and live each day to the fullest. I can't controll my fate so why not enjoy each moment as it is and live with no regrets?

Life is about… this is a difficult statement. Life is more than three things. Life contains many memories, adventures, and experiences. The more difficult question is what am I living for? And why am I living this way?
ReplyDeleteOkay… life is about sharing. We’ve all been taught as young children to share our toys or possessions with other people. Maybe this is to ensure our guardians we are learning kindness and patience or merging away from society’s expectations. Sharing shows humbleness and respect for the other person. Most people view sharing as something tangible like money for the homeless. My personal favorite example is a smile. Smiling shows not only your happiness but self respect. Who doesn’t like that joyful person who cheers you up on your cloudy day, gives you a hug and tells you “Everything will be okay”.? Many people choose to share their religion to others to provide them with comfort and support as it has given them. And how about sharing a hug to a family member?
Life is also about being curious and not knowing all there is to know. Live is observing the world around you and constantly asking questions. Curiosity often shows selflessness by thinking of others and other things besides you. Curiosity is continuously learning and wondering about what is beyond this Earth/Life.
And finally life is about love and passions. Love for religion, family, friends, animals, nature, and many other things. What is Life without love? I can’t even begin to comprehend. Is passion the same as love? To me love is thousands of times stronger, like a flaming fire within your heart that never ceases to burn. A lot of my love goes to my God, family, friends, my cats including our newly acquired kitten, outside activities, and many others. So first off, I would like to say that I had a brilliant dissertation on my three little tenets of life, but when I pressed Post Comment, it got deleted and I got left with a stupid error code and now I want to break something. In other words, what is going up is going to be a summary, not my actual stuff, because I’m unbelievably frustrated and brilliance cannot be replicated. (haha. but seriously. there’s no way I could come up with that again.)
ReplyDelete1. PURPOSEFULNESS: Don’t be an amoeba, just floating along and doing whatever. Take initiative, be driven. Purposefulness is what fuels us, what keeps us up all night doing a project, what keeps us from closing our math books when we see that we have 50 graphing problems, what propels us forward during that last suicide when our lungs are on fire and our legs feel like tree trunks. Yes, that fire inside each and every one of us. That’s huge.
2. PERSONAL GROWTH/ADAPTATION: Let yourself grow as a person, learn from experiences. If you touch the hot stove and walk away thinking “my goodness, who knew stoves got so hot!!” then you’ve learned (basically) nothing. Yeah, now you know that stoves get hot, but SO WHAT. If you walk away thinking “my goodness, stoves get so hot! I’m never touching one again” then you have succeeded. You learned a lesson, and that’s what counts. Never forget your lessons and experiences, because your past DOES shape your future, and THIS is what characterizes you. As for adaptation, the need for versatility is huge. If you had a breakdown every time things didn’t go as planned, where would you be? That’s right, hiding in your closet like the guy from Benchwarmers. So adaptation is key, and so is learning from your experiences.
3. ACCEPTANCE: Acceptance, NOT tolerance, is absolutely vital. If you go around hating everyone that’s different, and by extension hating yourself, then what? What will become of you when the darkest recesses of your mind can provide you no solace from the burning hatred that has come to consume every aspect of your being? Exactly. I mean really, what is tolerance, hm? It basically means “putting up with.” In other words, you just mute your hate. So once you ACCEPT yourself and others, your world goes from being one of continual annoyance to one of peace and opportunity. When your time comes to grab the bull by the horns, how well do you think it’ll go for you if you’re standing there thinking “ew. theres no friggen way I’m touching a BLUE bull. those creatures are disgusting and below me.” Yeah, exactly, not so good, because Señor Torro Azul doesn’t care about what color you are, he cares that you happen to be wearing a red shirt. So, in other words, when you’re ready to take the proverbial bull by the horns, do it. Don’t let your mind be clouded by fears of shortcomings and doubts. Get on, hold on tight, and see where life takes you, or, if you’re very in-tune with my first little tenet, see where you can make the bull take you :)
The end.. sorry it was still kind of long….
-Lilly… from 3rd period.
Well Mrs. Miller :) the three parts are
ReplyDelete1. Find your joy: There's a difference between being happy and being joyful, being able to find something that will make you enJOY life, not afraid of the next bill or able to find out if your sick. Not being afraid or fearful of anything that has happened or is going to happen.(Go watch the Bucket list) :)
2. Purpose: Everyone wants to find their purpose, why they are here, their identity. A feeling of importance within themselves that they have a reason to wake up the next morning. Whether people turn to religion, family or themselves, finding ones self is an important feeling we all go through and we will probably die never truly knowing who we really are. Depressing I know! :(
3.Hope Whether its false hope or actual hope, everyone needs a reason to keep moving forward. The ability to look over past mistakes and not drown in them, as hard as it maybe. Progressing forward and not being stuck in the past is essential to living your life without regret.
That being said everyone's view of life is their own opinion and decision
- Zahoor...JK SOROOSH<---------- :) 1st Period
Life is about innocence, knowledge, and experience.
ReplyDeleteInnocence: Since childhood, people do not know what they desire for their life. They do not know what is right or wrong unless someone tell them. Their environment influence their perspectives and behaviors.
Knowledge: Later, they go to schools to learn more about, math, science, English, and the environment around them, which shape their ways of thinking. They learn whatever that are required for their career in the future. It is not necessarily mean that they actually know how to do things on their own. They just know the concepts, and that is it.
Experience: Then, they go to the real world, which is full of happiness, misery, conflicts, greed, and generosity. This is a part that they make many mistakes, actually learn from them, and never make the same mistakes again. The experience makes them grow intellectually and be whoever they desire to be.

Life is an expression of ones self that a person can mold into an experience. For me, life is about courage, expression, and Water.
ReplyDeleteCourage: The one thing that give a person power, to reach into the dark abyss and pull oneself out of that damn Bell Jar. The most well known expression of facing ones fears and kicking ass. :)
Expression: The conquest of variety can be hard for people as they constantly want to become like Chuck Norris. I am fully aware that he is perfect in all shape and form but the ability to express oneself is what makes a person truly unique. People who strive to express themselves are people of true natural virtue.
Water: The essence of life.
"You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend."

Life is about having fun, dreaming, and the constant thought of the future.
ReplyDeleteFun: Life is only fun when you enjoy what you are doing. No one wants to live a boring life, boring as in doing what they dislike or hate most.
Dreaming: We've all had that time where we just sat in class and just daydreamed, or dreamed while sleeping. Everybody likes dreams because it lets the possible and impossible to come together.
Future: The thought of our future is constantly with us, even as kids. Whether we decide on our career, how many kids we are going to have or what kind of person we are going to marry. We live for the future.

Period 5
The three entities about which I believe life is all about are individuality, curiousity, and companionship.
ReplyDeleteIndividuality: the uniqueness that describes who I am and not what people expect me to be. I believe in my own values and do not succumb to the peer pressure to conform that teenagers are constantly subjected to. Demi Lovato's "La La Land" perfectly describes the importance of individuality and finding happiness in who I am.
Curiousity: the desire to discover all that life has to offer. I possess an insatiable appetite for learning and exploring new things. Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" is my favorite expression of the beauty in life's dicoveries.
Companionship: the compelling force that drives one to desire another to share in all of life's adventures. Experiencing life alone is unfulfilling and makes me lonely as opposed to living in the company of family and friends whom I love. Barry Manilow's classic song, " I Can't Smile Without You" is an ideal song that I dedicated to a loved one which makes us both smile whenever we hear it.
Thus, the entities of life as I see them can best be described by music once played on turntables at 33 1/3 RPM. For me, indidivuality, curiousity, and companionship are what makes my life worthwhile and forever young.
Maleyna George
Period 3
Ya know. I see 10 comments, but I do not know if ten juniors have already posted, but in any case, here are my thoughts on what life is all about.
ReplyDeleteTo start, life is about the discovery. From the day we are born until the day we die, a discovery is made. Whether it is a scientist discovering something amazing (what haven’t they discovered these days?) or if it is a middle-aged man discovering his hair is losing color (he’s dutifully ignored the fact that it is receding as well). But in every case, discoveries are important because they give us knowledge. It helps us better understand the earth, other people, and ourselves.
Next, life is about struggle. Of course, this is not the most cheery of topics for life to be about, but I feel that life is definitely a struggle. Whether or not “struggle” applies in each individual’s life is definitely a decision based on case, but there are two types of struggle. The first is the innate struggle, the one not commonly recognized, but is there in our subconscious. By this I mean the genetic struggle: to produce offspring and pass on our own genes in healthy fertile offspring. Granted, this is not the commonly defined struggle, but it exists (why would girls and guys be so biased on first impressions if it were not true?) But there is also the struggle between people. Though this is not a direct struggle, there exists the struggle of a poor man trying to support his family and Bill Gates (and he is losing terribly to Bill Gates). Unfortunately, struggles like this are everywhere and can connect two strangers simply by how much they make.
But, my favorite thing about life, and what I feel it is all about, more than the discovery or the struggle, it is about the music. While I personally cannot live without the common definition of music (whether it be Ponchielli or The Mars Volta), music is sound. Music is in the laughter shared between best friends and is in the tears over a loved one who just passed away. All sounds, no matter what they inspire, are simply a different form of music. After all, music takes us on a journey (particularly any Pink Floyd album) and leaves us thinking. Think about it. Any person left in isolation becomes insane if they have no one to talk to. In Cast Away, Chuck Noland (played by Tom Hanks) talks to Wilson, a volleyball. He stays sane (for the most part) because he has the communication. The music of life. It is what keeps us all going.
Holly Seyler
Period 5
You can ask David Bement what Senza is. :)
While I agree with the majority of the opinions stated so far, there is a serious overlook of the basic necessities of life, and thus, existence. I hope that my additions will be edifying, beneficial, and constructive to the learning environment of this class. If not, then forgive me I ask, or let me know personally.
ReplyDeleteFood. Entertainment. Survival.
Food: Energy, taste, life, ATP energy, metabolism, digestive system, money. The source that gives us energy for our body to continue. The opportunity to share ideas over a burger. The thing that drives us to make decisions 3+ times aday in connection to it.
Entertainment: Distraction, money, fun, money, distraction. That which allows hours of continued study (music). That which unites all ethnicities (sports). That which allows us to forget that sometimes, life sucks, and that we have to take responsibility for our actions. One of the largest sources of income for certain people (“athletes”, “starts”, “celebs”, “etc”)
Survival: That which promotes continued existence for the sake of existence. Without it, there would be no surviving. Or Surviving. (redundant) (repetitive). That which drives people to make money, have families, buy things, eat food, find entertainment, and live.
Without these three generic driving sources/things, there would be no life.
While this doesn’t go as in depth as I would like, I am exercising self control.
I’d love to elaborate over either of those three topics. (yes, either doesn’t work with 3) over a burger or something, so let me know.

life is about growth, dedication, and integrity.
ReplyDeleteGrowth: Life cannot be lived everyday without improvements. improving ourselves is crucial in living a fulfilled life. Life would be flat out boring if we stayed the same our entire lives. I feel there would not be much to live for if we could not change our lives as we please.
Dedication: in order to succeed at something to your full potential, you must completely dedicate yourself to it. similar to growth, improvements cannot be made unless you are dedicated to making them.
Commitment: In order to grow, and to be dedicated, you must have the willingness in you to commit to it. Nothing worth your time will be accomplished in your life without these three main components.
Life is about risks, relationships, and hope.
ReplyDeleteRisks: Life would be boring and dull without risks. Nothing would change and emotionally one would not grow as well. We would not know what we like or what we did not. Personality-wise you would be a dull and conservative person. We would never know what our life could have been.
Relationships: Not necessarily with a boyfriend or girlfriend but any kind that makes you happy. Like one between yourself and your dog, not romantic but yet you love each other with a passion. Even between you and Netflix because they have your favorite shows on demand. Life would be a cold and dark place to be if I or anyone else for that matter had no relationship with anything. It is meant to help you live and cope with everything around you.
Hope: It is essential for everything. Hope is what gives you courage to survive everyday at school. Hope is what makes things happens. It motivates you to keep on going, never stopping. Hope makes you kill the obstacles in your way so there is a bright future in the end.
Ps. Netflix is so freaking awesome.
