Alter Bridge, Blackbird

This is Creed-minus-the-singer, which is a good thing. Later they needed or wanted money & brought Scott back, but for my money Alter Bridge > Creed.

As for English class . . .

You all wrote.

Juniors did the AP-open-question writing, from '74, '78, '94' or '04; you each had a choice of two & almost 24 hours to prepare, so my guess is that you did well. Oh, & you will read Sonya Jongsma's essay over the weekend . . . it's titled "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein: Friendship, Alienation, and Relationship Dynamics." You'll evaluate it, & we will discuss this 1st take on "theme" Monday.

Sophomores chose either a person or a moment from history to explain. I bet you all did pretty well, too.

I enjoyed this first week back, & I will enjoy this first weekend back.

I hope you do the same.

Be cool.

  2. Yeah, I feel like I screwed this prompt up... I felt confident with my choice, Then I sat down and about halfway through paragraph 2 I said to myself, "Crap, I should have done the other one". Moreover, when about 4 minutes were left I had a few more ideas I wanted to get down in paragraph 3, but decided to cut it short and do a conclusion. Oh well, here's hoping to me getting better at timed writings this year, as painlessly as possible, anyway...

  3. Whoa--deleted post? wish I had seen that one . . .

& Noah, it's not that bad.

Also, remember that it's week one (so the evaluation is "more lenient")

& you have a good idea for a goal in "getting better at timed writings"

    You'll do several this year

  4. I think that Erica Goldson's take on the public education system is completely correct. In my case, I will study very hard for a test that is coming up, I will find weird ways to relate the material to something I enjoy, I will take the test, and then when I'm finished with the test, the information quickly leaves my memory. The schooling system these days only cares about how smart we are on paper. It's strictly about numbers and how to improve those numbers. I feel that we need to start focusing on what's truely important, which is genuine knowledge.
