an unfinished novel . . . 4.15.11

02 September 2010

A: birthdays, Christmas, & college football's opening night

Q: what are McB's favorite days of the year?

Well, one of 'em is today, & I say, "GO PANTHERS!!!"

Pelican, City of Echoes

Prog-metal, mayhaps?

Really cool instrumental grind, anyway.

I love instrumental music--guitar-based, especially--& this rocks pretty hard. You'll hear much more "non-voiced" music this year, & as I always try to help/get people to broaden their musical horizons, I hope some of you all enjoy it.

As for the "English-education-like substances":

Juniors: another successful day of seminaring.

I really enjoy the 1st seminar(s) of the year, as I get to know an awful lot about each of you--your relative enjoyment of public speaking, your shyness or lack-thereof, your favorite & not-so-favorite classmates, your tastes in music & literature & film, your "reading" of the text (or, quite obviously in some cases, the lack thereof).

You created a successful pair of days, &I thank you for that.

Tomorrow: "Seminar Wrap": bring your notes for the 2 days, the seminar prep sheet I checked last week, & any annotations you did for the "grade-boost."

Sophomores: Man, that guy is old.

& those wings are huge.

You turned in your pages, having answered the Literary Analysis, Literary Focus, & Reading Focus prompts.  We went over another definition/explanation of "magical realism," which is really cool.

You also turned in your vocabulary synonyms for unit 1, & we went over the OR format again. I passed out the rules & example 2 weeks ago, we did one ("well, 1/2 of one) together in class last week, we went to the library Monday, & now it's your time.

Take advantage of it.

I will mark your update at the beginning of the period, pas it back to you, & have you go over each detail to ensure a  proper update format.

Sooooooooo . . .

Forward to Friday!!!!!!!

(Just wait  until you see the shirt.)

Be cool.

Note to D Wannstedt: you go for the victory on the road; you do NOT play for OT

  2. Oh God, there's a shirt; next they will be selling hats in the student store, then banning the hats... Oh and as for the featured band/song for tonight, I just listened to it and thought it was cool. I had never heard of these guys, but am generally a fan of instrumental songs and this one was done quite well, it was not repetitive, it was certainly unique to me, and it was something nice to listen to while I annotated my essay. Plus, it is one of the longer instrumentals I have heard, which I think is cool, as a fair portion of the music produced nowadays is obnoxious in my opinion; so thanks for the song/band, McBride, I will listen to your recommendations more often.

Oh and I feel like I should apologize, there may still be some blood and/or skull indentations on the desk(s) I used during the seminar. Sometimes they are great experiences, at other times they drive me crazy, either at my own inability to speak up, or the sheer monotony of the seminar. At times I heard great insight and took notes on them, plus when I DID speak up, apparently I brought up a good point as I was referenced the next day, which I thought was cool. At other times, it was like watching someone play tennis against a brick wall, monotonous, with the same point being bounced repetitively, without gaining any ground, and no matter how hard you try, in the end nobody, wins... and THAT is your daily dose of pessimism, from me, anyways...

  3. YES!! a convert, one who shall "listen to [my] recommendations more often"

    one a day, my man

well, on a weekday & sometimes one a weekend

& yes, you summed up the seminar's reality quite well . . . but I remain positive on all accounts

(except the count of "playing for the 3 at the end of a game on the road when you have a chance to steal an unearned victory" . . but I digress)

    be cool
